The MT 206 can only be sent and/or received by financial institutions which have registered with SWIFT to send and/or receive the MT 206/MT 256. If a registered user receives an MT 206 without bilateral agreement with the Sender, the Receiver should query the message according to normal banking practice.
When sending a large number of truncated cheques, it may not be possible to fit them all into one MT 206. In that case:
Additional MTs 206 must be sent, and they are chained using field 28E.
All fields present in sequence A except field 28E must be repeated and contain exactly the same content.
Field 32A of the last message must contain the sum of all fields 19 of all chained messages.
Field 23E must contain the same value in all messages.
The currency code in fields 32A of all messages must be the same.
The use of this message is subject to bilateral/multilateral agreements between Sender/beneficiary's financial institution and Receiver of the truncation message and where necessary, between the issuer's financial institution and the issuer.
